everyday Zen

(yesterday morning at the park)
“This is the Zen approach: nothing is there to be done. There is nothing to do. One has just to be."
                                                                                     -Osho
(afternoon nesting with books + a cup of tea)
I keep on saying to myself that I will practice slowing down once things have slowed down...sigh. But what I really need to do is to slow down right now!! Easier said than done. I sometimes find myself wishing for  this imaginary time and place where ...things are quiet, static...then I can practice mindfulness, meditate, live in the moment instead of ...rushing frantically from place to place, researching homes and schools and on and on. I know better...I really do:)
(working in my studio last night)
So...I have been making a very conscious effort to slow down now...at a time when I feel completely frantic and stressed. Plans that we have been working on for months and months have fell through and...changed. It's not a bad thing...just a change. Which equals stress!! So I figure that now is the perfect time to practice mindfulness...not when I have no stress and am up on a mountaintop somewhere:) Right???

Now is always the time to practice...in the middle of everyday stress and chaos, because that's what life offers us...our practice makes it ours. xo

Everything happens for a reason, Right? Something better is coming. One can not replenish oneself if not nourished. Take half a day, relax, breath, close your eyes, dream.

Right! That's the challenge. I heard a quote yesterday that the higher the expectations, the lower the level of serenity.

I don't remember which Lifeclass I was watching, but Iyanla said, you can't find joy from a place of depression (not that you're in that place). But, she said, if you have nothing else...just close your eyes and breath, and find joy in the fact that you are alive in that moment. That little nugget has helped me A LOT lately.

I hate to tell you, but as Tara grows and enters school time spins by even faster! All we can do is try to practice! I'm slowly beginning to realize that despite my believing otherwise, Autumn just IS a very full time!

Belated congratulations on your debut in Somerset Magazine! That is so thrilling. I am in awe of all that you do and yet how you return again and again to the essentials: your family, your home, and the gifts of this life. Our girls - how fast they change! I want to remember every juicy moment and yet it all is spinning by me ... I look at pictures of my chubby baby and wonder: when did she slip away? (7 is sweet but with a healthy dose of sass that hints of teen years to come!)

Sending you slow, leisurely thoughts and long, lingering hugs. Happy November dear one!

this is so true. we needn't look for ways to practice since life seems to offer them up often. it is up to us to learn from them... the only other choice is to scream and hide under the covers! i am trying to do more of the former these days. trying.

I have found that if one doesn't slow down our bodies find a way to slow us down..... and often those are the times that we discover or re-discover a few gems in life. Hope you find more time for nesting with books and a cup of tea.
