Moving!

It's finally official! We are moving all the way across the country to... California! This has been on the table for  quite some time...but we are now in the midst of all the hubbub that goes with a major move! So many things to do-so little time! Packing and researching and getting our home ready for sale-just way too much going on over here! Whirlwinds of change and I am trying to stand still at the center...trying to breathe and find my inner calm. "Live in the moment"-my mantra at the start of the year is now being severely tested:) Breathe...just breathe...

I envy you so much! My husband and his family are from California & we lived there for the first four years of our marriage. About a year and a half ago my hubby got a great job offer in Virginia so we moved to Richmond. Though Virginia is nice we both really really miss California and would like to move back someday. Right now though his job is just too good to give up & the economy out there is too mercurial. Where in California are you moving if you don't mind my asking? We lived in southern California and traveled all over the state for fun. Can give you lots of great tips on wonderful places to see & events to attend :)

Thanks for commenting at my blog! I want to put your mind at rest about two of your San Diego worries right away: crime rate & wildfires. San Diego was listed in 2006 as the fifth best city to live in & had the sixth lowest crime rate of all cities in the u.s. Not sure what part of Virginia you are currently in but Richmond, where I currently am, has much more crime & scarier neighborhoods than anything I saw in southern California. Even in poorer neighborhoods at night I never felt unsafe. We often went to San Diego to shop, explore, and take photographs and never once had any problems. Of course there are probably neighborhoods you want to avoid late at night on weekends but in general I felt safer in southern California than I have anywhere else in our travels around the country. As for wildfires they really aren't much of a problem unless you live in Malibu or in the eastern canyon areas of SoCal. Occassionally you'll have rough air quality but you & your home will probably be safe. Earthquakes aren't nearly as bad or as common as tv makes them out to be either. I loved my time in southern California & can't wait to go back to visit my husbands family. We'd move back in a second if my hubby finds another job out there. He's in the IT field mortgage/ banking & that field was hard hit by the downturn in the economy recently. Cost of living is outrageous in California, especially the taxes & schools aren't that great in most areas. Those are the real drawbacks to California life, not the crime or possible natural disasters. I will work on a lust of great things about San Diego & the surrounding area. Maybe I'll dig out all my photos & make a blog post. I miss it very much and envy you!!! :)
